Acorn at Kents Hill featured on Sky News
We were delighted to host the Sky News report into the Save the Children report about the shortage of Early Years teachers, and our Kents Hill nursery children showed the reporter their very best potion mixing and a range of other activities, with Sophie, our Early Years Professional (the forerunner to Early Years Teacher Status).
We are very fortunate that as a nursery group we have ten Graduate Leaders, and we also have lots of very talented experienced practitioners who do not have degrees. We are very keen for all our staff to have the opportunity to further their professional development as we have seen for ourselves the impact of staff who are studying for, or who have achieved, their foundation degree, their degree, or Early Years Teacher Status. Encouraging more Early Years Teachers is just one part of the professionalization and development of the sector, but there are cost implications to this which the government need to recognise in the funding levels for the ‘free’ entitlement. Sophie is a fabulous example of a great practitioner, and we are very proud of her and of all the team at Kents Hill, as we are of all our nursery teams.
