Over the last twenty-five years, Acorn has developed a range of robust policies and procedures to ensure consistency across our nurseries. Our policies are located within each nursery’s prospectus, which can be downloaded from the nursery’s individual web pages. If you would like additional information please request this from our Central Support Office. Policies include: Inclusion and Special Educational Needs, Behaviour Management, Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities and Healthy Eating. Sustainability is a key policy which is embedded throughout our practices.

We aim to balance the need to be consistent in our practice with allowing nurseries to develop their own individuality and we have a cluster-type structure, with no nursery more than half an hour away from another, and all nurseries within an hour’s drive from our Central Support Office. No policy is set in stone, as they are all reviewed at least annually to ensure that we remain at the forefront of childcare excellence.

We strongly believe that children need sensitive, knowledgeable adults to care for and nurture them and that the best childcare professionals are those who enjoy their work and who are constantly striving to improve their practice. Our team of fully qualified and experienced early years practitioners are supported by nursery assistants, who are working towards a qualification. All staff are trained to observe and listen to children, enabling them to develop personalised learning opportunities and supportive relationships.

Above all, we aim to recruit staff with a genuine love of children, and we value experience and maturity as much as energy and enthusiasm, as we believe the best staff teams have a balance of personalities and abilities.  We also have a team of staff in our Central Support Office who provide administrative and specialist support to each of the nurseries, enabling the staff to spend time with the children, not on paperwork.

Acorn Childcare: A Day at Nursery

This short video features footage showing what the children get up to in a typical day at nursery. Filmed from the children’s perspective and across several sites, it shows the day through their eyes and the world as they see it, as well some of the types of activities they get up to and the style of play they choose to participate in.
